Mukul Rustagi's Classplus is enabling coaching institutes to go online !

After quitting their jobs, Bhaswat Agarwal and Mukul Rustagi were trying to set up a coaching institute since they saw a gap in delivering personalized learning. “We spent most of our time designing the lessons thinking that all supplementary aspects could be taken care of easily. We were wrong and quickly realized the plight faced by tutors in the segment,” says Rustagi.

Tutors needed help with tasks like designing academic content and conducting assessments so that they could focus on teaching instead of spending time on administrative jobs. “We couldn’t find technology to assist us in automating the processes of running an institute. So we decided to turn around and solve the problem once and for all,” says Rustagi.

In the year leading to the launch of Classplus, the founders spent time with more than 500 tutors to understand their business and challenges. “We tried to map their daily schedules and activities, and discuss use-cases with other faculty, students and parents. The exercise has helped us gain users quickly as the users themselves contributed as product consultants,” he says.

Main challenge 

“There was a lot of negative sentiment against technology solutions because of their bitter prior experiences. We were the first to introduce a mobile-first approach in an industry dominated by middle-aged users and it required a fearless approach to establish the same,” he says.

Company Current Status 

The product is used by 1,200+ tutors across 15 cities and over 1 lakh benefit from it. “Seasoned entrepreneurs and a global VC firm have backed us with growth capital and we're now ramping our teams to scale faster,” Rustagi says. The startup has been part of Amazon’s EdStart programme.
